Frequently Asked Questions

  • There are a variety of different reasons why people may engage in therapy. Many enter therapy when they are struggling and have negative symptoms that are impacting their life. Some turn to therapy to work on personal growth. Whatever you may be looking to explore further, therapy can be a valuable resource and active way to engage in self-care, healing, and prioritizing your well-being.

  • I start by setting up a consultation with potential clients to ask some more in-depth questions and to get a better understanding of why you are seeking therapy at this time. It is also a good time for you to be able ask me any questions you might have for me.

Consultations are generally 15-20 minutes long via phone call and are free of charge.

You can email me directly at sydney@madeforthiscounseling.com or click here to submit a contact form. I will get back to you within 24 hours of your message.

  • Yes! All our services can be offered at our Shorewood office

  • Credit cards are stored securely on my electronic health records platform. The card on file will be charged after each session is completed. HSA and FSA cards are accepted. You have the option to change the card on file at any time.

  • Made For This Counseling is an out-of-network practice and does not take insurance for a variety of different reasons, mainly client privacy, and the rules and regulations insurance companies implement when it comes to mental health care coverage (ie. how many sessions are allowed, needed diagnosis, and dictated therapy styles of treatment that are allowed to be used).

Although, I can provide you with a superbill (an invoice) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. You can inquire about out-of-network mental health coverage with your insurance company.

  • This is dependent on you, your goals, and other factors that may determine your length of therapy. My goal is that through our work you develop insights, self-awareness, and skills that you can take with you after therapy. Some utilize therapy in preventative ways and continue utilizing it throughout their life. This is something that is a continuous conversation throughout our time together. This is also another reason I offer 30 minute check-in sessions if you want to talk through something in particular of use it as a form of self-care.

  • In the beginning of the therapeutic process, I usually suggest attending sessions once a week or biweekly to help us build rapport and get a jump start in doing the work. However, I do know that this is not always feasible with schedules and finances. We can work collaboratively on how often therapy might be helpful for you.

Throughout the duration of therapy, I typically see my clients moving from biweekly, to monthly, and then as needed.

  • I will sometimes provide informational worksheets or book recommendations depending on your needs and what we are discussing to provide you with more education on a specific topic, but unless you are wanting homework, I usually do not give it! Although, I do believe what happens in-between sessions is just as important as what we do in session. You are an active participant in your growth and healing journey and my hope is that you reflect and implement what we discuss until our next session.
