About Sydney Kunz, LPC

The most important factor in therapy is the therapeutic relationship.

I truly believe in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship and space. As a therapist, I provide my clients with a trusting, safe, and nonjudgmental space for my clients to explore the depths of their experiences and deepen their understanding of themselves. My approach to therapy is holistic, warm, down-to-earth, collaborative, and rooted in empathy.

My goal is to help you connect the dots of your experiences and understand how they impact your daily functioning, view of self, and the ways in which you cope. My hope is the more you begin to understand yourself and your experiences, the more confident you will become to live your life authentically to who you are. I’m here to meet you exactly where you are on your journey, and to walk along side you, encourage you, and facilitate the growth and change your wanting from therapy.

Educational Background:

My educational background includes a Masters of Science (MS) in Professional Counseling from Mount Mary University and a Bachelors of Art (BA) in Psychology from Queens University of Charlotte. As a trained and fully Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I am dedicated to furthering my knowledge on the latest modalities and treatments for my clients to provide them with the highest quality of care.

How I believe Change Happens in Therapy:

In my view, change in therapy happens slowly and often in ways that aren’t immediately visible. It’s a relational process that unfolds over time, where trust and connection with your therapist allow deeper layers of healing to occur. Sometimes, shifts are happening beneath the surface, outside of our conscious awareness. These shifts are part of the process, and while they may not always be obvious in the moment, they create lasting changes in how we see ourselves, how we navigate our relationships, and how we take in the world around us. Change can come from simply feeling heard and validated and by identifying new perspectives, building self-awareness, and understanding your behaviors in a safe, nonjudgmental space. It’s through this gradual, unfolding process—through understanding, practice, and reflection—that true transformation takes place, helping us reconnect to our authentic selves and move forward with more clarity and confidence.

How I Show Up To Sessions:

In our sessions, I prioritize a relational approach, which means I see therapy as a partnership rather than a one-sided "expert" dynamic. I aim to be approachable and down-to-earth, often showing up in ways that reflect my genuine care for you—sometimes dressed comfortably, ready to listen deeply and provide a calming space to process your thoughts and feelings. While I provide guidance and recommendations, such as book suggestions or coping skills, my role is to walk alongside you, not dictate your path. This is about YOU! My focus is on fostering a connection where you feel safe, seen, and supported in your own process of healing and growth.
